I recently got an Audere V/V/2B for my jazz bass, and I totally crash and burn when it comes to repair/installation, so I took it to a luthier to get it installed. I know what you're thinking, "Panda, how could you?!?!? You are the founder of the passive club." While this may be true, I still have passive pickups, thus still retaining the passive-ness of my jazz bass. I though getting the preamp would be an audacious move, but it was well worth it. Have used only passive controls all my bass life, I didn't know what to expect.

The tones I get from my Audere are unreal. I know there have been thread after thread of Audere, and now I know why. It sounds like have I have a whole new bass. I am very happy I got the V/V option, and I prefer 2 band EQ. I have read that V/V is better than V/B, and I agree, you get full tone.

My bass doesn't sound "active" it sounds "passive". The Audere does not color my tone in any way, which is another reason why I love this preamp. I am using the preamp with DiMarzio Model J pickups (great pickups, by the way.)

My favorite thing, and of course everyone else would agree, is the Z-mode switch. Leaving my EQ flat and just using the switch changes the tone of the bass very nicely. Although, I don't usually set the tone flat. My favorite positions are: Bridge P/U, bass around 74, treble 50, and the Z switch on low and Both P/U's, bass 50-60, treble 70-75 and the Z switch on high.

It is so fun to play around on the preamp, I find new tones every day.

I highly suggest this preamp to anyone (I don't really know what else to say now....)

AMEN! I just installed the Z3 in my Squire Affinity 5, what a whole new sound! I cant wait to get some different pups in it.:cool:

Congrats on the revelation, Panda. :)

Mine is something of a reverse discovery... Going from Active EMGs and an EMG preamp to a set of Nordies and an Audere I've come to appreciate the "liveness" of a great set of passive pickups and a preamp that doesn't squash it. :)

I enjoy fiddling with the V/V/T controls on a Jazz as much as the next guy. The only reason I'm leaning towards the Audere 3 band is I really find myself missing the midrange boost/cut knob that my actives have.

The V/V thing is very cool for recording when I've got time to fiddle. I'm worried that I'll miss having the ability to tweak just the midrange in live situations when I like the basic tone I've dialed, especially if the bridge is already rolled all the way open. Thoughts?

actually, Panda...you are technically self-contradictory...

first you say "it sounds like I have a whole new bass" and then you go on to say "it doesn't color my tone"

actually, the former is true, the latter is false...it DOES color your tone...

but, I do get what you are trying to say...basically by saying that it sounds "passive" and not "active" is that there is little "artifacts" left over from the EQ...

in other words, things sound (and "respond" for that matter) natural and not mechanical ...

I know, I know...I am being pedantic...but hey, that's me...pedantic pants :)

Low Z mode is something else-I can't imagine having a bass now without it.
