So my high school jazz band (~20 piece big band) is playing the rock/folk tune and theres a big drum and bass breakdown in the song. On the recording he gave us the bassist doesnt really do much he kind of grooves but its kind of stale. the version i have is on the buddy rich trbute album i dont htink i can find it anywhere online. I look forward to soloing but im really lost on the style, major happy rock and what licks and thoery to use. major scales, major pent, is what ive been told but i listen to a lot more minor music and im more comforatble with that kind of stuff. so can anyone help me? its in C btw.

if i can make a suggestion...

Just because the music you listen to doesn't sound happy, doesn't mean its not major. Try Major Pentatonic Scales for the solo. Try...C MAJOR! haha

I havent heard the song ever, so im not exactly sure what your going for. can you give me something better to work with?
