Hi guys this is my first post so I thought I'd say hi, but I also have a question.About 3 months ago I started playing bass. I haven't really learned any theory. Just how to read Online Tabs and play around 60 songs (metal and punk). So I wanted to know if this is a good starting book. I know some theory like the note types, the treble and bass clef, and other stuff. Here's the book:

Hal Leonard has an excellent reputation for instruction books.

I'd recommend "Bass Guitar for Dummies". Dont be put off by the "D" word. It's a great book IMO and covers everything to do with bass. It's written in an easy to understand way. Comes with a cd also.

Well you posted the link to the DVD which I am not familiar with, but at 3 months you could totally benefit from the Hal Leonard Method books 1,2,3 which come as a combined book for about $16 off amazon.

It is a great method to work through. Bass for Dummies is a good book also and has a totally different style and feel to it. If I had to pick one for learning bass, I would say get the Method book as it will put you through that paces with notation and rhythm etc.

If you can, get both as I think that they compliment each other. The dummies book has some nice stuff about amps and general maintenance and more verbiage describing scale chord theory.

I have bass for dummies, good book over all. im tyrign to figure out where to start from. any suggestions?

Start with the Hal Leonard Bass Method book. Go through each exercise and focus on accuracy and timing.

The first 25 pages or so you will fly through and then some of the exercises get a little bit more tricky if you are playing them right.

Use the backing tracks on the CDs. It is a great match for a 3 month bassist. It will help you a ton with sight reading and developing better timing also. You can move along at your own pace but by the time you go through all three books, you will be a much better player than when you started as well as have a good foundation on sight reading, notation, different styles some basic theory etc.

I recommend getting the complete edition as it has all three books and cds included with the comb binding that makes it so the book stays on the page you set it at.
