The city of Chicago is scheduled to vote on an ordinance that with impose substantial fees and legal requirements for all artists and musicians performing within the city limits. If you perform in Chicago, you or your promoter will be required to have a special promoters license (fee required), and a general liability insurance policy of $300,000. This is required for ALL performances whether you're playing the All-State Arena, or Clancey's Irish Pub to 8-10 of your closest friends. This is separate from the venues' promoter fee, and general liability insurance policy already required of all venues. This ordinance affecting artists and/or their promoters is therefore redundant and unnecessary. Check out the following link, and let your voice be heard!

At first I didn't think the Chicago would actually go through with imposing fees on clubs AND promoters. If the clubs are insured, the promoters insurance would be redundant, and the promoters license is a joke. No other city in the nation has it, what's up with Chicago? Not only do we have the reputation for having the most crooked politics in the country, looks like we're going for the highest taxed and regulated too.

This isn't a done deal yet. There's still a chance we can speak out against this, or at least vote out the bozo politicians who vote in favor.

I've heard about this and signed a few petitions against it. This would right about kill all of my gigs. I can't afford that.

"The Chicago Sun-Times reports that in the last three decades, at least 79 local elected officials have been convicted of a crime, including three governors, one mayor, and a whopping 27 aldermen from the Windy City. " Here's a link to an article by the Chicago Sun-Times to read more about political corruption in Chicago.
