The treble pup on my new 4003 is hotter than hell, but no matter what I do, it overpowers the neck pup, which is quite honestly the weakest pickup I've ever encountered -- and I've owned 30 or 40 basses in my time. Has anyone ever tried the SD or other replacement pups? Any comments? Also, I don't remember my old 4001 having such a wimpy sounding neck pup -- is this something new with the 4003's? Thanks for any input!

I had a 4001 and I had Lindy Fralin rewind the pickups. The bass sounded much better after this was done. Very clean and clear as a bell. You can send your pickup to him and he will rewind it for a very reasonable price.
