OK so i got this fender Reggie Hamilton jazz bass 4 string made in Mexico as a present for my b-day and one of my friends told me that the strings looked kind of far from the fretboard and I wanted to find out what should be the standard measure because according to me its a little less than 1/8 of an inch. I just want to hear it from experienced people... thanks :help:

Even though you don't own a Music Man StingRay, I think their recommendation for string height is a very comfortable setting. They set their basses up so the string height is 3/32 inches from the top of the 12th fret to the bottom of each of the strings. That would be 1/32 inch less than 1/8 inch. Fender's website has a step by step procedure to set up your bass. It explains it quite well.
