I´m watching it right now, it´s pretty pathetic.

IMHO Creed are way past their prime, they are still doing some sort of "hero" rock with "epic" videos. Basically they´ve become stagnant.

What you get is a cartoonized Scott Stapp, as some sort of avenging angel (complete with wings), battling a dragon and some sort of Dark Lord. They tried to make it look like a video game, complete with incredibly repetetive motion.

It's hilarious (if disturbing). Ooh! Scott Stapp-Angel does a spin kick! Ooh! there's another one! but the Dark Lord blocked it! Ooh! now he does a jumping spin kick! The Dark Lord recoils! Oh No, the Dark Lord does a foot sweep while he's down!

Astonishing.

Def Jam spent over a million dollars making a video very similar to what you're describing, for Sisqo's "Unleash the Dragon." One of Russell Simmons' lieutenants looked at it, said "You've got to be kidding," and shelved it permanently.

So, it figures that Stapp would want something so ridiculous.

Yes, if the God that Scott Stapp loves so much really exists, he will do hopefully do us all a favor and b!tchslap Creed into nonexistence.

...the chorus part -- "Look at me! Look at me! Look at me! Look at me!" Okay Scott, we're lookin' at ya! It's your band and you're the center of attention. We get it. You are our generation's Led Zeppelin. I also like how the guys in the CGI video are drawn all muscle-y and stuff. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha...

I love the part in the "My Sacrifice" video, where Scott passes up that hot chick and saves himself instead, so he can sing to himself! Does Mark Tremonti only have one pose? I think they superimpose him from video to video, because his stance never changes!

On a more serious note, I am probably going to be "forced" to go to a Creed show by my girlfriend -- payback for the three GWAR shows I "forced" her to endure. I think I'm gonna wear a Pentagram T-shirt and yell "you suck!" during a quiet interlude. I hope I don't get assaulted by an angry mob of Creedites.

Only in the sense that Scott Stapp hates Christianity because of his terrible upbringing and somehow this translates into making himself Jesus.

I think some therapy is in order. . .

Barring that, you could go down to CIT and gank the keyboard from one of the ResNet machines.

I think that Scott Stapp is really a demon sent forth by Satan with the sole intent of convincing people that he is Jesus and that they must follow him or be doomed to eternal damnation.

The whole idea is that the more people he gets to follow this false christ, the more souls he has for himself. Those Jesus Christ posses (not to be associated with anything Soundgarden) are just not too subliminal messages.

Scott Stapp is the spawn of SATAN!

AAHHHH!!!!

No, Carson Daly was like the Golden cow, and Scott is trying to save us.

That bullets video made me shudder. "look at me..." Ok, am, now will you go away?

I'm just waiting for the days that the paranoid delusions set in. When Stapp thinks he's being stalked by satanic record execs, and fears for his saftey in public because enemies of God are after him. Or that he's the 4th coming (the 3rd being Michael Jackson, the 2nd being Jim Morrison)

Nick man

But you forgot Lennon and Cobain!

Still it would be funny to see him run down the streets of NYC with fairy wings and a sword like in the video screaming "Look at me! Look at me! Look at me! Look at me! Look at me! Look at me! Look at me! Look at me! Look at me! Look at me! "

Especially when the cops unleash tear-gas on "Jeebus".

Ok, I won't pretend to be up on all of this ****, but what's up with this band? Sure, they're pretentious and cheesy, but what's up with the bass player? Do they simply not have one, or is he perhaps the only one with enough sense to refuse to be in any videos as monumentally stupid as theirs?

They fired their bassist a while back.

Which was probably the dumbest thing they ever did. He was the most talented member of the band IMO.

Maybe he just didn't want to be in the videos. Could you blame him? :D

I'm all for free speech, but some folks here just might be offended by the way this commentary has headed. Without trying to sound like I am a blind champion of political correctness, I do think that we can comment negatively on Creed without commenting negatively against a particular religion or sacred images in that religion. Let's cool it, folks.

okok, i been watching this thread. I think we should all agree that this band gives a bad name to people of their faith with this whole "i am your saviour and i have wings and will defeat the evil dark forces" thing.
Lets just remember these people are just misplaced idiots, they dont represent anything but bland rock.
They should either stop making music or get their heads out of their arses.

IMHO of course.

I think the person doing most offense to the Christian faith is Scott Stapp.

He poses as the god they believe in, and claims himself to be religious when (from what Ive heard) he lives a less than religious lifestyle. Ive also heard he sings about some things you wouldnt expect on a Christian rock bands album.

I go to a Catholic high school (Im baptized Greek Orthodox, and consider myself to be agnostic though [sp?]), and know several Brothers and am good friends with a priest, and can tell you that these men work hard and are good people with genuine intrest in helping others. After all, helping is what Jesus preached about. I see none of this in Creed, and I think thats pretty messed up for a Christian rock band.

I think Nick Man's right in his assessment of Creed singing about things and using language that is not representative of what Christianity teaches. Being a Christian myself, I am offended by Creed and their shenanigans. They sing almost obviously about a belief in Christianity or religion in general. Obviously Creed has concocted their own religion and if they really are Christians I am deeply saddened by the fact that only Tremonti has come out and said he is a Christian. I do not believe Scott Stapp has as of yet done it and it is a disheartening thing that he is recognized as Christian when he cannot even stand behind the belief if that is what he believes.

Nick man

Im not sure if by language you meant word that are censored or messages, but I strongly believe there is nothing non Christian about saying "F#@%& I screwed up" or using it in any non offending way.

I get tired of people assuming that a good Christian shouldnt use foul language.

Nick,

I agree that a word is only some made up letters thrown together to make meaning of things. However, some words have come to be known as improper because of their connotations. These words are used out of context all the time. Saying these words automatically carry some weight because everyone knows they are not appropriate in a lot of settings. People get fired or reprimanded for it. People get looked at negatively by some. A Christian or anyone else just doesn't need any of that.

Specifically, I was referring to the lyric
God%$#*. This IS taking the Lord's name in vain, which just happens to be one of the Ten Commandments. If he is a Christian he is either not taking the Word of the Bible seriously, or doesn't care and he is probably not a Christian.

Nick man
07-29-2002, 01:34 PM
I agree with you that its worng to do that since he is breaking the 3rd comandment, which is pretty obvious.

I was just venting. Ive seen some really good brothers and a priest be repremanded for using words to get their point across. They did not use the words in any damaging way, but instead they used them to add emphasis or get peoples attention, and Im tired of people focusing on the word that people use, instead of its meaning and message.

Besides, I bad word is only a bad word untill enough people use it.

Peace
Nick

I agree that words are only words. I do think there are inappropriate times to use them. It's only that others know what they represent that makes them offensive. A lot of people also only use profanity, not to get a point across, but because they feel it is some kind of power word or a cool thing because others use bad language. I don't care if someone uses profanity on occasion. It's when it becomes a factor in every sentence, every other word, and begins replacing other words. This is done quite often now and it makes no sense. I am an English major as well so that could be part of it. If people spent more time learning real vocabulary words maybe our nation's student test scores would be higher.

I just want to add that it's remarkable that anyone can come as more pretentious than both Bono and Thom Yorke combined (no flames, I'm a fan of both their bands) and yet have nothing to say. Scott Stapp, we're looking at you, but there ain't much to see. Creed is nothing but a forth-rate conglomeration of Led Zepplin and Pearl Jam.

Stupidnick

I see scott stapp as a person who could never be in the shoes of Eddy Vedder...
or never will..
They neither have as much tallent as pearl jam and there song writing.. just plain sucks..
I agree with bassable
I dont think that being a christrian.. you should use that word anyway.. although.. i dont see some 4 letter words as being bad in SOME situations. (I think numetal bands go overboard with this one)
Im not the type of person who trys to put on an act for people.. i am a christrian. . I do use language sometime.. Im not perfect by anymeans.. I know im a hypacrite sometimes(EVERYONE IS)
I dont clame to be anything im not.. I dont read the bible and i dont clame to be holier than this person..
The only reason I really goto church is to hear the music which i like (progressive rock type stuff.. bass solos.. guitar solos a little harder than the brooklyn tab and hillsongs stuff) its not like slayer or anything but its far from a normal southern babtist church..
okay back on topic.. sorry i ramble..
I think creed should just retire.. They have enough money andi dont wanna hear about em anymore.. the end

I agree. When I wrote SOME situations I meant that we should not really ostracize a person for some profanity and God will not judge us by it. Technically, the Bible says the Lord's name in vain. It makes no mention of other words. I still try not to use it and slip only occasionally. God has given me help in this area! Anyway, Creed tries to pass off some image and it just falls under my corny category.
