Can anyone give me pros and cons? I like both, but am not able to play them side by side.

Whenever debating between guitars, i always try to get them sided by side so i can figure it out better. .. but any help would be great. Thanks!

Pro for Reissue: You can actually purchase one in perfect shape with a warranty.

Con for this matchup in general: Not many people actually own a reissue and vintage models with identical spec.

The vintage will never go down in value,if that means anything to you. Otherwise,I'd gig with the reissue just in case something happend like theft or damage.

build wise, the mia 75 ri has a slightly slimmer neck profile and is a pound and a half lighter. its still heavy though because my 78 is 11.5 lbs:D one thing that bugged me about the ri is that they dont install the frets over the binding like the originals but the frets are installed between the binding. this makes for a feeling somewhat similar to a bass with fret sprout but not sharp since we're talking about plastic binding. i had the edges knocked down on my bass to leave a smooth feeling when running my hand up and down the neck.

its got a tighter neck pocket and pickup routes than my 78 jazz if that means anything to you (i personally dont think its that important) the 78 rules for tone straight out of the gate even though the ri is built a little better. the stock pickups in the ri dont sound anything like any 70's era jazz. with an electronics switch, the ri rivals the vintage fender but the 78 still wins for me.

Ahh... You made my point! Yours is a 78, the reissue is a 75... Different pieces of wood have different character. I don't think you'll find 2 vintage 70's era basses that are identical. If you find one that sparks you up, buy it. If you think the RI is right for you, buy it. Trying to overanalyze the 2 will just make you delay your decision to get either one! :)

fender could have called it 76,77,78,79,80 ri if they wanted. :D any of the jazzes from that era sport exact specs (3 bolt neck,ash body,70's pickup spacing, small decal).

ive owned 3 late 70's jazzes and have played a ton more. they all sounded pretty much the same. ive never noticed that much variation in the tone from basses of that era. i only sold the ones i had previous to the one i own now to fund other stuff.
