Gotta share this story from a (short) audition I somehow agreed to.
First, I discovered that the lead guitar guy was one of those "purists" who insists every cover must be played exactly like the recording, so if they're tuned to Eb, we all stop and re-tune, unless someone has enough guitars to keep extras just for alternate tunings.
But bass players don't whine--we don't need to. Guitar players give us plenty to laugh at.
My highlight of the evening came when I was told to drop my E to C for the song "Figure You Out". I said "i don't need to drop my E, look at my bass"
He figured out it was a five sting, and said, (I swear), "But your extra string is a B! You need to play a low C!"
I'm not proud, but the next words out of my mouth were, "What comes after B?"
His answer, "A"!!!!
