I'm serious. We don't often have the chance to hear first hand from people whose music (in this genre) affects us deeply and constantly. Take advantage of it while you can, none of us are going to be around forever. Just think, what if you could e-mail Bird?

His website is a great place to start... it's very complete, and includes several of his very insightful articles. There's a list of his compositions, and complete contact information.

he never seems to be a bass player that i hear mentioned often,
perhaps a little underated?

Underated, only in terms of the other living Bill Evans bassists.
Not underated, IMO, by people who are aware of his work before and after his time with Bill.
Chuck was and still is one of the great jazz bassists, and will remain so.

Not under rated. Fame isn't the only measuring tool for success in music.
I think reading the articles on his web page ought to be enough to convince you that "badass" doesn't really apply!;)

Do what Ed suggests and e-mail his bad ass.
Chuck would love you calling him a bad ass.

You could try to contact him through Western Washington University where he teaches.

I had the opportunity to chat with him at a gig of his and had a great conversation on many aspects of the jazz world. He's an opinionated guy, but he has spent a lot of time thinking about jazz and music in general and is well worth talking to if you get a chance.

His article on Bill is the best verbalization so far, IMO.
