How can I improve it? Are there any exercises in existence for it? Also, does anyone have that 4 finger exercise (the one with random patterns of 1, 2, 3, and 4) that builds finger independence?

Play scales at 60 BMP, and then slowly but surely get faster and faster as you up the tempo on the Metronome. Other than this, i dont really know what else you could do. I also want to find out this, so im subscribing :)

play that four finger exercise, scale on 2 ocatves (all of them) very slow at first, like kirby said, start at 60, and go slowly from there. Be sure to listen to your self, record yourself if you can. With a tape cassette or with your computer. When it sound good and only then!!! you can go to 65.

Check your finger movements.
Put your thumb on the back of the neck, and minimize all excess movements of your fretting fingers.
