You laugh, but I'd like to see you play it ;)

Me, I prefer my bad bass playing a little less frantic:

Thank you. Love that video on so many levels.

Check out this video of Michael Hedges and his guitarharp: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTC7kPZZmuM
The instrument is equally (if not more) absurd, but he actually knows how to play it.

"What should I do for the video?"

"Ahhh I don't know, Frank... just beat the living hell out of the thing for a few minutes. If anyone questions it we'll just say they're musically closed minded or something"

alright guys, come on. I'm sure this dude doesn't represent the overall musicality of the 10+ string community......right?

I think there are a lot more, um, bad bassists on any amount of strings than good ones. But who cares? It's a funny video, and that's what's important.

well I can see why the guitar is a "Unique 10-string 11-string" instrument....
some people just don't get it obviously.... :D

By closing my eyes and just listening, I thought I walked into my local Guitar Center.

I'm fairly certain the video was meant to be hilarious. Like, there's no way anyone who was sane would actually be sold by that. Unless the selling point was that it was hilarious. In which event, mission accomplished.

Nice find, J.

The greatest part though is how long it goes on for. Anybody can make godawful noise for 30 seconds, how about five minutes or more? It goes from hilariously funny, to not as funny, to kind of sad, to "how long is this damn thing" and then subsequently back to hilariously funny again by virtue of the guy's persistence.

Oh, and just so everyone knows - in the future bad bass playing duties will be performed by robots:

LOL...I believe that COULD be the sound bass players are subjected to for eternity in hell..could you imagine Satan sitting there(think Sam Kinison joke about married people) saying "Oh, you are a musician? I have something SPECIAL for you..come with me"

Man, I presumed this was a joke. I googled the guy, however, and found his website: http://sanbass.com/

It's not a joke, he's just a world-class idiot.

Thanks for sharing this JMJ, I hadn't laughed that hard in days.

I'm not sure what's idiotic about trying to be innovative in crafting an instrument. I'll grant you, however, that he doesn't have a clue how to properly demo one, and certainly comes off as rather pretentious in his description.

the coolest thing is that it doesnt stop with bass players, heres a client of the dudes!
the guitar/bass/whatever it is comes in the last third of the video, though I cant say I dont recommend the rest of the video, the guy is laughable to say the least

This might be a "shreds" type video, bad audio dubbed on someone else's video.

Eg, Steve Vai shreds: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aiXR9ggRdFI

I wondered if it was a "shreds" type thing myself, but I think not. Gawd, I love me some shreds. Check out my faves: NIN shreds, Creed shreds, Jake E Lee shreds, Santana shreds. EPPIICCCCCC!!!!!!!

I don't think cramming a guitar and a bass together into a single instrument is particularly innovative, especially if the ambition to do that on (or to) it is the impetus for doing so.

If others have found something better to do with it, or something like it, good for them. Let's give them credit. I still think that guy is a first-rate idiot.

If that performance was meant to be some kind of comedy or satire, I would credit him with a kind of genius. It is clear that he had no such intention, however.

Also, given that fact that its been done before, in many different ways, I've seen some just as he does his, Novax 7+ string guitar/bass hybrids, Chapman Sticks, Krappys, Warrs, and a whole heap more.

How about I glue a tambourine to a grand piano? Would that work?
