VIEW FULL LIVE VERSION : Replacing a nut

tom once dead

Today I replaced the nut in my friends g***tar (he's 13, and has no knowledge of instruments). It was the first time I'd ever done it, and it was pretty messy so I have some questions about how to clean it up.

First of all, getting the old glue out of the slot; I didn't have a great selection of tools, so I used a fine file to try and smooth it out, Worked okay, but whats a better way to do it?

The new nut was way to high, and the edges were a bit rough, so I grabbed the file again, and got to work. Again; is there a better way to do this?

Whats the best glue for glueing in the nut? I only had woodworking glue, and I didn't think that would set to the plastic, so I just put the strings on and left it for now.

Thanks for any help/advice :hyper:
