My teacher mentioned hearing something on the radio about a young bassist being awarded the McArthur Prize. Does anyone know anything about this?

There was a thread earlier about E. Meyer getting it. That's all that I've heard.
Here's the link if you want to look up any recipients: http://www.macfound.org/programs/fel/fel_overview.htm

Below, from the 2xbasslist regarding Edgar Meyer and the MacArthur Foundation award:
"Great news for the bass playing community. Edgar Meyer was just named as a Fellow by the MacArthur Foundation. This gives him a no-strings attached grant of $500,000, payable in quarterly installments over five years. Wow." 9/25/02

Thanks, Ray and Gary, for not loudly pointing out that I mispelled MacArthur. However, there IS such a thing as the McArthur Prize, also known as the "genius award". I'm not likely to be a contender for either one, unless modesty and sincerity count.

Edgar Meyer is the man, a true prodigy. You should check out any of his stuff, especially with Bela Fleck....
