VIEW FULL LIVE VERSION : The Desert Island Question

Hey folks. . .here is the question that is a great icebreaker with a new musician (or on a first date) for that matter. . .

If you were trapped on a desert island with a CD player and only 10 cd's, what would they be. . .

Let's, just for the sake of argument, that you could not have any "Greatest Hits" albums. . .we are looking at an album as a unit. . .

Live Albums are included, and this is NOT columbia house. . ."The Wall" does not count as two slots.

Well, these aren't ranked, just numbered so as to keep some order here...

1. The Pilfers - S/T
2. The Pilfers - Chawalaleng
3. Ani DiFranco - Living In Clip
4. Dispatch - Silent Steeples
5. Dispatch - Bang Bang
6. G. Love and Special Sauce - Philadelphonic
7. Dave Matthews Band - Live at Red Rocks
8. Minor Threat - Complete Discography
9. H20 - F.T.T.W.
10. John Coltrane - Giant Steps

I had to rul eout a lot, because they were greatest hits type dealys...such as Bob Marley and the Wailers - Legend...and Experience Hendrix...I let Minor Threat stay in because it isn't a greatest hit collection, it's ALL of their stuff on one cd.

Sheesh...Hmn

I guess I'd just have 10 custom mixed CDs filled with stuff by a bunch of artists.

of course, I'd be a little cheat, and take a Nomad Jukebox and some passive speaker...you can wire those things to 120 gigs of memory. THAT, my friends, is a LOT of music.

I'd take 10 random cds from the music store from artists I've never heard of.
I've listened to al lmy music a zillion times, and don't need to be stuck with them for a zillion times more.
even if what I pick up sucks, it beats knowing every song so well its hard to enjoy.

Given that rule - the "Complete Ring Cycle" - Wagner, has to be one choice - that's over 14 hours of music!! ;)

Well, is it 10 CDs or is it 10 albums? An MP3 capable CD player would let you have 100+ hours of music on 10 CDs... :)

But as I said, I'm not gonna sit listening to music, I'm getting off that island! :D

Makes interesting reading with some of those lists.... not many repeats between them and classical music has a good showing.

Anyway, my picks :-

1. Jack Johnson - Brushfire Fairytales
2. The Blues Brothers (OST)
3. Sublime - Sublime
4. Less Than Jake - Between Borders and Boundaries
5. Weezer - Green Album
6. Catch 22 - Keasby Nights
7. Counting Crows - August and Everything After
8. RATM - RATM
9. Primal Scream - Screamadelica
10. Radiohead - The Bends

although I'd be gutted to leave G Love, John Lee Hooker, Norah Jones and Atomic Fireballs.

It's tough to cover all musical needs in just 10 albums.... When I'm just sunbathing I've only really got Jack Johnson and Counting Crows to sleep to......

Okay, so this offtopic, but...
Jazzbo, I clicked on your link and what do I see but Gladys Knight and the Pips' "Midnight Train to Georgia" listed as your #2 fav song of all time, as of two years ago... is this still the case? Damn I love that song... almost gives me chills every time I hear it, it's SO powerful...

As for my desert island albums... eh screw it, maybe I'll try to figure that out sometime when I have a couple hours to kill, which is certainly not now.
