This was a suggetsion brought up by another user named ThunderPig, in the basses forum, and I thought it was a great idea. Here is his post.

Where we could post serial numbers and or pictures/descriptions of our dearly departed. I wouldn't expect such a thing to end thievery, but if one member could get back just a single instrument, wouldn't that be worth it? What do you think? Our instruments are being sold somewhere and maybe some of us could could help. Between all our members, we are in contact with thousands of instruments for sale on any given day. Even if you don't find your long lost bass, maybe you will be able to help someone else find theirs. I'm sick of donating instruments to the black market(4 basses,6 guitars and a 48 channel mixer, etc.), aren't you? If you don't think much of my idea, try and think of a better one. This problem affects us all. I'm sure every single one of our members has been ripped off or knows someone who has. Let's make it our new year's resolution to try to help each other out with this problem. Thanks.

I think It would be great to have a forum like this, and Im sure others would agree.

Here is a link to his thread so you can follow the progres of it:

Again, I would like to state that this was not my idea, but I was just bringing it to your attention to show my support for it.

Peace
Nick

I agree also. Having been a recent victim of theft, and losing over $5000 worth of possessions, I think it would be real cool if this helped somebody get their gear back.

But seriously tho. If I could catch up to that thief i'd show em that the bass aint' the only thing that could use a good slappin'. I really HATE people like that.

So it sounds like we might be weing this forum in the future?

Its a little more extreeme to mandate this, but I think itd be great if we also had a bass and amp registry where we could list our bass (or amp), a short description (color woods) and serial numbers.

Its a great resource to help ensure the saftey of our gear.

Hi. I'm the guy who posted the thread about a forum dedicated to recovering stolen gear over in the basses forum. A member named Nick was wise enough to transfer it over here so it could be read by the powers that be. I posted a reply to that thread and I'd like to bring it over here too because it explains what I had in mind about how such a forum might work, but I'm too lame to do it. If any member could bring it over here, I'd be grateful. Thanks, T-Pig.

I'm a bass player....I have no idea how to organize this sort of thing. Please, if any of you have any ideas, cut me in.

SIDE NOTE: In just TRYING to get this together, along with the support other members have for this idea, I feel like less of a helpless victim already. Thanks.

No problem.

Is that what you wanted?;)

So, any news about progress or the possibility of such a forum?

musicians need to use "All-Risk" musical instrument plan

insurance specifically for your gear - remember a lot of gear is not insurable under homeowner's policies because it is for business use

just my $.02

I can not seem to catch embellisher away from home long enough to give this thief thread a proper testing.

Where's Paul?

What do you think of it?

Now with news that an MTD was stolen from Mike at NAMM I think its worth really considering this forum.

Here's a link to the thread on the subject:

http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&postid=821476#post821476

I think having a clearly designated forum specifically for the reporting and recovery of missing gear would be a great help in alerting others.

Since I last posted there was news of a stolen Sadowsky which is stuck at the top of the Basses forum:

http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=73627

And I just found this:

http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&postid=864766#post864766

He just had his gear stolen and Im sure a forum designated for the recovery of gear could help.

I just want to add that if you build a template for stolen gear posts, to take into consideration the limitations of the search function. I noticed that it can't search for short words like "PA" so if you had a limited edition bass with a low serial number, you may not be able to find it via search.

Good point.

I think thats something to worry about in the latter stages, but should definetly be considered.
