Hey All,

I like the the fretboard tool at activebass quite a bit but didn't like having to be online and reload it a bunch to work with it. So I put together my own fretboard HTML page that I could use. To see it go to:

http://freeweb.pdq.net/boeker/temp/fretboard/fretboard.htm

And if you want to download it and run it off of your hard disk I've a got a 4K zip file with the .htm file and the 3 images it uses at

http://freeweb.pdq.net/boeker/temp/fretboard/fretboard.zip

It's configurable so you can do anything from a 21-fret four string to a F#-based 26 fret 8 string (I think). So check it out if you like.

FYI - this page is pretty IE-specific and doesn't look very good under Netscape.

VERY cool learning tool. I've already bookmark'd it; had been looking for something to help me learn the notes on the fretboard (something I'm very ignorant about). Thanks for the link and your work!

Thanks for all the kind words.

I did an updated version of the page that works on Netscape as well as MSIE. It's at:

http://freeweb.pdq.net/boeker/temp/fretboard/fretboard2.htm

A zip of the html file and images used for local use is at:

http://freeweb.pdq.net/boeker/temp/fretboard/fretboard2.zip

I've been trying to get a version of it to work on my handheld PC running MS WindowsCE but haven't succeeded yet.

My next project of this type will be a similar thing for naming notes on the staff so I can try to get bass clef into my brain (it's got treble clef burned in after many years of playing saxophone). Then I need to relate the read notes to the fretboard locations. Too bad I have a family, a job and a band getting in the way of doing all this fun stuff. Someday.

To give credit where it's due the idea is from http://www.activebass.com where there is a ton of good information. Their fretboard tool is at http://www.activebass.com/default.asp?iTarget=http%3A//www.activebass.com/basics/visnote.asp (I hope that link works - they have a default frame and bury their pages under it). With theirs you can hear the note too, I think (I haven't tried that part).

A picture of my band at its most recent gig (a house party) is at http://freeweb.pdq.net/boeker/band/detour2.jpg if you want a laugh (I'm the one playing bass, obviously).

craigb-
Hey man can you let me know <email me!> if you get a version working on CE? I would like to have a version to play around with when I get bored at meetings! Thanks. Maybe I'll try to write one myself. I got the MS development tools for CE and I think I could hack together a VB version pretty easily, if only I had the time!! Thanks again.

Ok, good tool man. *applaudes* its good even for me to refine what i know. To learn notes further up the scale.

I've had an idea.. Why not get Talkbass to include it on their website or put a link to your site. Its had such a good response from people in thise forum, i think it should be available to everyone.

That just my opinion, cause i know i'll use it, and so will a heap of other ppl.

Does anyone know why any of the links for this don't work anymore? Darn, I really liked this.
