An old story, (forgive me if you've heard it) which I will render bass-specific:
Three men are killed in a plane crash. At the entrance to Heaven, Peter asks the first one about his life. The guy says "I drove a cab." Peter says "Come right on through the Pearly Gates, brother." The next guy says "I ran a paint store." Peter says "Right on through the Pearly Gates, sir" and in he goes. Peter asks the third guy what he did in his life. He says "I was a bassist." Peter says "Right, go around the back to the loading dock, through the security entrance, take the freight elevator, go through the kitchen..."
