| 1948 Kay C1 I'm new to the double bass... lots of experience on guitar, washtub, electric, and a few other odd stringed instruments. I recently purchased a 1948 Kay C1 for $900. I had my luthier come with me to look at it. It feels and plays great! As far as repairs go, the neck had a standard Kay crack and was repaired very well. The neck was painted a very dark see-through blackish color after the repair. The neck joint looks great. The back has a seam that is slightly pulling off, but I am comfortable with fixing that (with my luthier's help!). The bridge is not filed down well, but I am planning on putting an adjustable on it soon. I'm pretty excited about the bass as I have been searching for quite a while and this one really struck me with its sound, look, and feel. Does that sound like a good buy for $900? As it is now, it is set up well and very playable and I don't have to pay for luthier work if I help out (and learn!). Hope I didn't jump the gun, but before any replies from the masses come in, I am very comfortable with the purchase. What do you think?
Pics can come soon... camera is locked up in my classroom right now and school's out for the summer!
