Question 1950's Hofner 3/4 Double Bass Help

Hello everyone I'm new to this site so I hope I'm posting in the right place, but I thought maybe someone could help me out with this. I am an experienced bassist of over 10 years now and I've decided to get into the upright bass world. I'm on the hunt for one and I just found this bass on a local website. Can anyone tell me if its a good bass / good deal? Here is the info (There are pictures too but not sure how to post them yet):

Early1950's Hofner Upright Double Bass 3/4 sold by George Heinl in Toronto - original sticker inside says 'Distributed by George Heinl and Co., Ltd, Toronto - Made in West Germany' - excellent condition - sounds amazing, warm and projects well - ply body - ebony fingerboard - new set-up at Heinls last year - no cracks, dents - finish is in good condition - tuners are original and work well - includes K & K Double Big Max pickup - price is below valuation of $2500 without the pickup - firm and priced to sell - no trades please - cash and pickup in mississauga - no case or bow - $1995

Nobody can tell how good a bass it is until they play it, hear how it sounds, and examine its condition. I would guess that it was a well made bass. It may sound good, or not. It may be set up well to your liking, or not. There are many other options for ply basses today not available when this bass was made. There is a Shen SB100 in the classifieds at $1750.00 now. That would be a good bass for comparison, but you won't get them together to actually compare in person. So, see if you can take the Hofner to a luthier for a look and have an experienced double bassist play it so you can hear it and get his opinion. And go play a bunch of plys if you can so you can differentiate the good from the not so...

Its a decent deal. Heinls had 2 of these basses recently(I actually bought one of them). They usually go for around 2000-2500. Generally well built instruments with a good sound. If its in good shape and is set up well there is nothing wrong with that deal. There is one at Heinls right now that I almost bought, but it needs some work. That one is worth checking out as well however.
