Talking 2008 Donald Gorman Bass!!!

These are some photos of Bass Prof' David Currie's bass, I'm getting the twin bass made but with a darker varnish and shorter string length. (This one is set to 42")

Interesting shape. Can you tell me what the widths of the upper and lower bouts are? TIA, Paul

I'm not exactly sure, I will measure it on Friday when I get to play it again. I believe the UB is around 18.5-19" and the LB is 29"

You can see another Gorman bass here:

http://zacharysmartin.com/instruments.php

Both basses look really chunky in the neck block region, something about the way the ribs end up curving into the block ...

Interesting! I've never seen that bass. BTW Don is known for usually making really big basses with mensures of only 42", mine just has a small top, but surprisingly is still HUGE sounding. PS: There's an old gorman gamba bass in toronto for sale, it's going for like 11k, and it sounds amazing!!

My old stand partner Steve Krueger is selling this bass. I believe he bought it for around 10-12k and wants 11. I can find his phone number for you if you're interested. It has a really huge sound and is pretty. It's totally orange heh.

His email is sdkreuger@yahoo.com

tell him you heard about it from Calvin

No problem. It has a really punchy sound, and it's a flat back. I really liked it but Steve traded it for a Master model Xuechang Sun.

If it's of any interest, Ed Barker just commissioned a Gorman bass.

Ed has had it for a while. It's very pretty.

All the Gormans I've played have been excellent.

5 more weeks!!!!!! Had the upper bouts increased to 19" with more roundness (more traditional look), lower bouts of about 28.5. 42" string length which can go down to 41.5 if needed.
