I'd bet on this being the case.

Well....whoever made it did a good job copying the Musima Eberle.
Gottliver says it has neck problems already!

I bought a carved Eberle from Ideal a few years back and it's held up beautifully. It sounds fantastic for the $1800 I paid for it and I couldn't be happier.

steve: Do you know how the neck to body connection is done for their carved basses?
My only complaint about my 6 year old (but made in 1989) Eberle ply is the neck.
Other than that I am very happy with it.

Mine (carved) fell over face first while in a soft case and the fingerboard came off, no problem with the neck though.

I don't know, and I don't know how I'd check.

I recall someone saying here once that these used to go for about $3k until Ideal started selling what was left of them for less than $2k.

steve: Thanks....let's hope you don't have to check!

Musima/Eberle basses have been around here in Canada since the 1960's. I saw several of them here in the years before I finally bought one from Steve Loeb. Everyone spoke well of them and for a factory ply they can sound quite good.
I have no doubt mine will outlast me.... so for $900 I got a great deal. I remember seeing the same bass for sale at Kolstein's for around 2500 bucks before the Ideal Music liquidation...but that included an excellent Kolstein set up.
Also....I am certain the Meisel ply basses are the same instrument as the Musima Eberle.

One other benefit of ordering from Ideal, was a long phone chat I had with Steve's mother when I ordered the bass. What a wonderful, friendly, well-spoken and world-travelled lady. I enjoyed talking with her so much, I almost forgot to place the order!

Kate was great. I remember her being very concerned as to whether a truck going to Canada would pick-up in Manhattan. I told her that they would send a little truck over from New Jersey, and then put it on a big truck to bring it to Canada. She asked if I thought they would go as far as Alaska, I assured her that she only had to ask. She was so grateful she gave me a special deal on the carved bass in my living room.
