3/4 Double bass = Mazda 3 sedan?

Hey guys, anybody out there tried to fit a bass into this type of car? It looks like it would be a tight fit... but the trunk is large for a compact and the rear seats do fold down. Or maybe angled through the back door, I dunno.

It's an 2008.

Most sedans you're going to have to wind up with the body of the bass in the front passenger side with the seat back
They're just too thick to fit through the trunk and up the middle

My basses fit like this just fine in my Honda Civic. Won't fit through the trunk. I know it's not a Mazda 3 though ...

Yeah, I'm usually driving a Ford Taurus
Sometimes its a pain to get it in/out
If you have more than one gig in a day or you're stopping somewhere and want to take it with you, then it's more than irritating
On that subject, I wouldn't leave a bass alone in a car for 10 minutes - in the back of a van I definitely have less reservations

I would - in fact I did on Thursday night. Who feels like hauling their bass into the hotel at 3 AM? And it was in a van and about -25 C.

Okay, well it sounds like it might be possible, that's a good thing. I think a civic is comparable in size.

My bass would be mad at me for a few days if I did that, she's pretty picky

I used to haul my Kay that I played in High School around in my '64 Corvair 2 door Monza coupe. Folded down the rear seat, folded the front passenger bucket over, the neck went in the rear, the rest over the folded down front bucket. My present bass has ridden around in a '73 Fiat 124 wagon, '76 Honda Civic, Volvo wagon, '84 Toyota Celica Supra, Chevy Corsica 4 door, and lately it's been riding comfortably in a '95 Suburban or the back of my '95 Chevy pickup under the hard tonneau.

My old '88 Chevy Nova (beautiful car, she was) got me and my Kay around no problem.. Did the whole fold the passenger seat back and lay it across. Aah, those were the days. Then again, that was before I moved to the city.

I get mine into a Honda Jazz (no, I didn't buy it for the name. Have you seen the seat-folding options on that car? They're just brilliant! Back seats fold completely (and I mean completely!) flat for heaps for cargo area, and when you fold them back up, you've the option of the back seat cushions folding up as well so you've got the whole space across the car where the back passengers would go. They're officially called: "Magic Seats" (possibly because the name: "Bl**dy-good-idea-thought-up-at-the-pub-one-Friday-afternoon-that-still-looked-promising-on-Monday-morning-Seats" didn't wash with the Marketing dept)).

Anyhoo; I can technically get the bass into the back of the Jazz with the rear seats folded & the front passenger seat slid & leant fully forward. However, (and this would suit the OP's Mazda 3) I prefer the front seat option as described above; slide the seat back, lean the seat halfway back, bass goes in neck first with bridge-side facing towards the front of the car. Then swing the neck around to point backwards & slide in so the end pin rests against the glove box. Bass rests on its side, leaning back against the door. This is much quicker to load/unload, although you do sacrifice wing mirror visibility and this also costs me in extra chores & jewellery (the wife has to sit in the back!)

(Would that be called 'playing second bass-fiddle to a bass'?)

If the passenger seat lays down, it can be done. I've gotten my bass into a 2 door Civic before.

Yes, fold down the back seats and slide it through from the trunk so the body rests in the trunk and the neck in the car.
