Advice Please

Hi Friends
Well starting to learn UB bass at age 72, I ain't going to turn out any great bass player! BUT I'm sure hoping to enjoy playing a few notes along with my big band CDs. I haven't ANY music experience!
The bass is on order a Stentor student DB, which is all I could afford on this venture and not being in a position to have any personal tuition I'm hoping to order a DVD to start me off. Can any sympathic person out there give me any advice on which DVD would be most suitable, and any other advice that they think will help me.
Many thanks
Peter

Bravo! Good for you and welcome! I strongly recommend that you reserve some $$$ for, at least, a lesson or two with a teacher. If nothing else, that will help you to avoid injuries that can occur as a result of using poor and/or improper technique.

As far as online resources, this is one of the best places to start

Visit Gollihur Music's 700 links page. Loads of information there pertinent to playing bass. That's where I found the information linked to above. Welcome to the forum and congrats on the Stentor. I don't think we get those in the USA. Probably something similar with a different brand name on it.

I agree with Drurb on the lessons. Just a couple will get you started off with proper hand position. Good luck with it. You may well surprise yourself if you work at it correctly from the start.
