Question Aluminum Double Bass

I have a friend that acquired an old aluminum double bass viol. I would like to find out more info for him regarding the manufacturer, links, MSRP, and what it is possibly worth today. The only info on the inside is a number 537. I guess that's the serial number?

Any info would be appreciated. Send to my email: frankbregar@netscape.net

Thanks, Frank

FABRICCARE,

One of our beloved members who goes by the name of FARMERDUDE has an aluminum bass that he claims was made by the Ford Motor Co. He might be able to help you out. Here's a link to the thread he started about this bass:

(warning: this thread gets pretty goofy pretty quick)

I just want to know if it is kiln-dried aluminum or naturally aged?

Aluminum Bass

These things were made by the Pfretschner Co. in Czechoslovakia. Best bet--take off the neck and top, attach a small outboard to the tailblock, and you've got a nice little dinghy. Make sure the seams are tight first!
