I just found this on Ebay, looks like a great deal.

I'm really weary of buying instruments on Ebay but this looks like it might be worth a try. I have a couple questions.

Does it look refinished? It looks like it to me but I am far from an expert.

What is this thing worth?

Thanks!

Looks like a real one to me, and with a better finish than any that old I've ever seen. Also looks like the neck has been broken at some point and glued. Things to think about:

It doesn't have a whole lotta fingerboard thickness left, which is common. New ebony boards cost $$$.

I'd want to know more about the neck repair.

Many find the thin necks on the old Standards difficult to manage, and they tended to cause hand cramping in my case (I used to own #158). If you're a beginner, you might get used to it easier. Otherwise they're great basses.

Vis a vis thin necks. Thats' one thing that Jeff took care of when he did the fingerboard replacement on my bass. I asked for an extra thick board to help increase the whole neck diameter.

I can't really tell from the foto if that's an actual break or just something funny going on with the grain. I'd ask the cat for a LOT of fotos (closeups, in focus ) in that area, just to make sure.

Thanks for the info!

It looks like the neck has been glued at some time to me too, I will ask the guy for some more pictures. I'm not sure why I didn't think of that. The finish does look too good to be original to me, but I suppose it's possible that it is original.

I did think of that, but I couldn't bid on it w/o more info. Even by responding again I'm keeping this thread on top!
