Question American Standard DB - What is it Worth?

I have an American Standard Double Bass that I am considering selling. It needs some pretty basic work - a new nut and bridge, the fingerboard shaved, and a few misc cracks repaired. It is, however, in pretty good shape considering its age (VERY early 17xx serial number.)

Anyway, I honestly doubt that I will do anything with it in the near future because I am concentrating on my banjo playing. I really don't want to sell it but the right price - or the right banjo trade - might change my mind. Any ideas what it is worth? I'm in the Napa & San Francisco Bay area.

There is one in the classified ads. Watch it to see what it brings. It is not a sellers market right now...hold on to it for a while if you can.

If it needs structural work, ( most of them do), it's hard to put a price on. I'd suggest you take it over to Steve Swan and get his opinion.

An older fellow down here in Naples, Fl is selling his American Standard bass serial # 77. It's had a bunch of work done on it over the years, but plays great and is in pretty good shape.

Thoughts?
