Another mystery bass

Please help me identify and age and origin of this instrument. In case the photos here don't show it clearly,

1) it appears to have been cut down in the shoulders at some point
2) there are no external linings on the bouts
3) the scroll and tuners look original

this bass looks like a saxon bass that has been cut down, probably from about 1900, hope that helps
