Any Upton Standard players in UT?

After so many positive comments on this forum about the Upton Standard, I've called Upton and gotten a price. But since I live so far from their shops, I'm a little concerned about the humidity difference.

So, any Upton players in Utah? Have you had problems with getting a bass shipped and acclimated to this dry climate? I'm hoping the fact that the standard is all laminate would make it less susceptible to splitting.

Also, one definite downside with my ordering from Upton is that their 5 year warranty will only apply to me if I ship the bass to them at a cost of $378 one way, or $750 round trip! I had hoped they could authorize a reputable luthier here -- like Peter Prier -- to do any minor work I might need done in those 5 years, but they said they don't do that.

Any thoughts from you Upton players?

Hi, I just got my Upton standard yesterday, and I am very pleased so far. I was told when I ordered the instrument that they would authorize small repairs during the warranty period for me since I am in L.A.

Thanks for that info. Maybe if I talk to the right person, I can get a similar concession. Congrads on your new bass! I saw the pic on your thread and it looks beautiful.

You shouldn't have any issues with the dry weather in Utah if you are getting a laminated bass.

I live in West Jordan, UT, and I own an Upton Hybrid that is going to be lonely for a while since I broke my hand last week. I have a room humidifier that keeps the humidity at between 35 and 45 percent, which seems to be fine so far. You really won't have to do anything about humidification if you are getting a laminated bass, but if the dry climate is what's keeping you from considering a hybrid or carved bass, I don't think you need to worry, as long as you take the proper precautions. I would be happy to answer any questions you have about my experience with Upton, if you are interested.
