Anyone familiar with this bass or this outlet?

A friend of mine who leads a chamber orchestra through a local college is looking to by a bass and bow in the
$1400 price range. She came upon this ad for a Klaus Mueller Maestro Bass from a company called South West Strings. Are any of you familiar with this maker or dealer? Any other thoughts for a school program looking to stay within this price range?

Is the buyer near SW Strings?

Others will pile on pretty soon, however, I'll be the first to recommend trying (hand's on) before buying.

And, that is a very modest budget.

You might consider Upton Bass for mail order. They get very good reviews here. I would buy from them next time.

Good Luck.

I automatically assume that when anyone who is looking for something for a friend, that friend lives reasonably close. Texas might be a little bit of a trip.

If I am right then your friend might want to see what she can do at Upton Bass, because I think I MIGHT have seen a Shen in that range at one of there locations. Like most people here I won't recommend buying a bass unplayed, and that range is very constrictive.

Double the price range and Nahrmann has a few basses, Upton has a few and there's a couple of other places up here.
