Anyone familiar with a Hermann Beyer?

A classified ad in my local paper. It is a 3/4 10 year old bass. The seller says it's German but my local luthier says it is Chinese with a German name and could be not too good. Before I drive to look at it...Anyone ever heard of them? He is asking 750 so it's not much in todays world of used upright prices.

Most basses have a label visible through the bass side f hole showing country of origin. Many people are misled by German sounding brand names. Google the name and see if you can find anything. Most used German laminated basses sell for closer to $2K, even on consignment. Country of origin is not so important. Since it is local why not have a look-see? Check out the fittings and hardware, see if it has a real ebony fingerboard, and take a look at the label. If there is no label, well that's not a good sign. Can't hurt to look, though. Then you can tell us what it is.

how is no label a bad thing, some of the nicest basses I have played are unlabelled, I would be more worried about the price it is selling for than the label
