| I think it would be worth looking at. But as far as who the possible (?) maker of an instrument simply labeled Czechoslovakia is? First off who it is isn't a possiblility. It either is or it isn't. Nothing's possible there. And it is definitely doubtful that a fellow who founded a musical instrument business in 1887 would be around to also design the Hofner electric bass guitar of the 1960's. It might be unknown and "reasonable" but it's not possible. Many instruments were built in Schoenbach, which is also Luby. Without some label that says Hofner, it is just as plausible that any other in builder in Luby made it. Also Hofner was a big company pretty quick. It's not like it was hand built by Karl himself any more than a 60's strat was built by Leo Fender. Don't put anything into that. It really makes no difference. If you can go see it, play it, and evaluate it that way, then you never know. It might be worth that price or it might not. It's a bit of a shame that the original finish is not there, because that would help substantiate the age, but is does look nice in the natural like that. Any bass that is local and playable is a good one to check out if you are looking.
