Anyone need to transport an empty trunk to Germany?

I want to bring a bass back home with me at Christmas time. I'm wondering if anyone wants to get an empty trunk from northeast USA to Europe. I will cover costs to Frankfurt. PM me. Please spread the word!

you might check with Barrie Kolstein- he has some very good crates made for shipping basses. I don't know what the (airline) stipulations would be, but these crates could easily be made into a "trunk" (I suppose) by just putting some hinges and a flap lock (or whatever they are called) on the top. They are screwed together, but I would put more and longer screws in it for such a trip. You could also take it with the popcorn form in it- Of course there is the security check points that might get tricky. Or, use something else for packing that would make it easy for the airlines. Good luck

Or, better yet, have someone over there make a box for you, or go to a bass shop and get a shipping box from them-surely there is someway to avoid taking a trunk there and then bring it back. again, good luck

It's actually safer and more convenient (although more expensive) to airfreight a crated bass than to bring one in a trunk as oversize checked luggage. The reason I want to go with the second option is that the customs office here is beyond anything Kafka could have conceived. Even though I own the bass, I must technically pay duty on it since I've lived here for over two years. By the time they add up all the fees, I would pay 35%. Ouch! Travelling with the trunk, I would just be a working musician, and they would hopefully leave me alone. So, I'm hoping to find someone who for whatever reason wants to get an empty trunk from USA to Germany.
