Anyone played the New Standard Ply's next to the Hybrids?

Or had some sort of experience with the two different models of this bass? (both cleveland and la scala)

When I originally placed my order for a Cleveland ply I tried out the hybrid version and couldn't notice a huge discernable difference with my ears. Maybe with the bow the hybrid would sing a little more. I know some people here swear by the hybrid for a little more complexity of tone, but the ply cleveland is a pretty durn' good sounding hunk of wood by itself, IMHO.

I have one of each, both LaScalas. I posted some thoughts and recordings of them in This thread, and there's a clip of the laminate on in a trio setting in a nice dry room Here.

They both play and sound great. When I play out, I always play the hybrid when I'm playing indoors. It's just got a more complex sound with more focus. The laminate is louder, though.

I only have the Cleveland hybrid, but I did compare it to a couple of pretty nice fully carved Juzeks.I was happy that I got the Cleveland. The hybrid and fully carved models are quite a bit more than the plywood, and I think a plain plywood would be just great! If you can afford it go for something nice,if price is a major sticking point stick to plywood. At least with the New Standard models I think you'd be happy either way.
