Arachnophobia...

Any tips on dealing with a small infestation of mini spiders in the scroll of my bass? I'd say at least half a dozen of the little blighters. I'm guessing they were newly hatched babies.

Didn't notice until the strange tickling sensation around my left ear alerted me to their presence...

I went for the squashing them all with my finger technique, but perhaps I should have gone to a luthier with the problem...

For heaven's sake, don't kill them... you'll have PETA protesting outside your door.

I suggest you capture and rehabilitate them so that they might become productive members of society.

Oops. Too late. They are no more...deceased...dead.

I just found 7 or 8 more of the little chaps appear after a bit of practising. My only guess as to their origin is that there were some little spidey eggs in the peg box. Does that mean I need to change my practise schedules? Or perhaps use some more arachnid repelling brand of rosin?

A scale a day keeps the spiders away.

But the spiders are still in there! Close investigation with a torch (flash light for our bass brothers over the pond) has revealed a tiny little nest right in the top of the peg box at the back. All I need to do is entice them out, one at a time, and destroy them...

Take a q tip and squash them. Or you could enjoy your new found friends!

You could also alcohol swab the inside of the tuning box and see if that kills 'em.

Weird dilemma you have, man.

I like this, have a few drinks with them. Maybe they will be the secret to your tone and style? Running up and down the neck all sideways and weeble wobbley drunk hitting notes while no one else is the wiser.

Um... Why dont you just spray em?? You know like Target Ultra or something.. Be sure to get the one for crawling insects, If they dont come running out and then die, they'll just die where they are..

Better make sure the species isn't protected first though

Rock it!!

As they have done nothing to harm you, personally, why not remove the nest and/or spiders place it/them outside, and go back to practicing? For me, it may not always be the best approach to kill other creatures, simply because one can do so.

Everyone is different; to each their own. Live and let live, and all that (sic).

Check in with Jim Creeggan. He does things with "Itsy Bitsy Spider".

I wouldn't harm them either, or you'll have to answer to Boris. Chances are once all the wee ones are hatched, they'll drop out of school, leave the nest and move on...

Oh, and I wouldn't want toxic spray in my pegbox.
