ATTENTION ALL UPTON BASS OWNERS!

Hey everybody,
I hope everybody is doing fine. I'll start off by explaining my situation.
I have a Czech Republic plywood bass, and am considerring upgrading sometime soon. The basses on the Upton site seem very interesting, particularly the UB Hybrid and the UB Professor Bass.
I spoke to Josh from Upton today on the phone. He suggested that I find someone in my area through one of these bass forums that owns an Upton bass in order to try it out.
I'm living in Montreal, QC, Canada; so going all the way to Connecticut is a little bit of a stretch for me. But if I can find an Upton bass owner in Montreal that is willing to let me try their bass, that would be greatly appreciated. Josh actually told me that they have shipped basses up to Montreal, so this should be possible.
Even if you're playing an Upton Laminated bass, I would want to examine the quality of their instrument making in general, and not limited to the Hybrid or Professor Basses (although that would be the ideal).
So if there's anyone in the Montreal area that owns an Upton Bass reading this, please allow me the oppurtunity to try your instrument in ordert to make an informed decision about odering my own. If absolutely neccessary, I'd be willing to pay a little for the "test drive."
Thank you for your consideration.

Hey everybody,
this applies to anyone that's living closer than Connecticut from Montreal.
I hope I hear from you guys soon. After all, Josh said Upton shipped basses to Montreal before, and I imagine to neighboring towns.
Thank you in advance.

Hi Mike,

I live in Boston and have a carved "Professor" which you are welcome to play. PM me if you are in the area and want to wail away on my bass for awhile. You are always welcome here.

For a bit of background discussion on actual product experience vs. marketing and for further perspective, here are some links to a couple recent discussions and a couple other options in the same price range:

I'm in Brattleboro, VT and own both a lami and a professor. If you're in the area or feel like driving down, PM me and I'd be happy to let you come over and play them.

Hey Mike,

i live in côte-des-neiges and have a Hybrid. We have some friends in common on myspace, and we may have met someday... I can let you try it if you want, it is stored at University of Montréal, but i have some problems with it right now and will call at upton tomorrow. I was surfing this forum to find out if i am the only one that has a hybrid collapsing, with a bump at the back behind the soundpost, after a year of purchase....

Jerome,

I believe Upton has a 5 year warranty on their instruments. You should defintely call Gary and talk to him about it. Good luck!

I've got a bump on mine too, but I'm not quite ready to say the top is sinking. I just had the soundpost adjusted and my luthier didn't think it was a problem. I suppose you could add a patch back there to add some reinforcement. I'm just keeping an eye on mine to see if it gets any worse. Mine's a year old also.

To add: the bridge adjusters are about where they were this time last year. The bump is barely there, but can be felt.

Hello all
I had the same conversation with Josh at Upton today regrding any owners in the Buffalo, NY area. I currently own a couple of old Kay basses that sound great, but am interested in hearing an Upton. I play country, bluegrass and rockabilly and use gut strings. I'm interested in a laminated bass.
I'm a new member of talkbass and am not sure if it's cool to jump on to this thread or if it would be better to start a new one with regards to Upton interest in Buffalo.
