Bachendorff bass?

I saw a bass in a GC today. The brand is Bachendorff (not sure if that is the correct spelling). The GC sales people also knew very little about the instrument, as always. I tried searching in the web but all I got were pianos. Does anyone here knew of this brand? It's priced quite high, around $3000 converted from philippine peso. Plus I saw it in a GC.

A Double Bass in a Guitar Store?

That's like buying your food in a Pet Shop.

I know of a least one local luthier who does superb setup work on new, inexpensive basses and then puts them on consignment at local music stores. I think it's a good way for him to augment his regular business of repairs for known clients; he's not a very social guy and running a normal shop would be tough. So don't discount a bass for sale in an unlikely place; you never know the story.

Judging from their lack of knowledge of guitars, I'd be very cautious.

Yeah I know the works, GC is not a really good place to look for a double bass. But my country is not a really good place to look for it in general, though we have a real luthier on a far away town (cremonasia.com). My teacher told me his custom upright bass was priced at that level too. BTW, I can get my bass teacher to help me buy a double bass if ever, but I still have to tell him about this, maybe on our next session.

The other one I'm looking at is a supposed King. I'm still conversing with the owner about papers and stuff, though I might get help from my teacher to inspect it.

What really baffles me is if there really such a thing as a bachendorff bass, and why there's no mention in the web. It's a local store so I could expect them to add to the price a lot more than where they got it. Maybe it's just a china made but then given a high price or something, but I did saw a tag on it with serial numbers and stuff. I may have to double check.
