Back on the DB side...

After two years without a DB I've finally purchased another. It's a 1956 King Moretone in what appears to be all original condition except for the bridge. It had been on consignment for nearly two years at the store where I teach. Recently the seller dropped the price into my range and I was in luck!

Pics

It came with a nice rosewood bow, a decent padded bag, Fishman BP-100 pickup, and Fishman Model B preamp. The Cremona bridge is badly warped with adjusters that appear to have been installed junior high wood shop student. It also appears that the bass sat for quite awhile in a basement. The tuners are pitted and the jacks for the pickup and preamp are pretty corroded. No worries though, it sounds great! When I get a bit of time and extra $$$ I'll take it over to Peter Horn and get it fixed up. At this point I'm leaning toward a set-up and pickup(probably a K&K system) that will sound good for pizz and slap. (Don't worry folks I will be taking lessons to get my bowing together.)

I showed it to a friend of mine and she said she knows the previous owner so maybe I can get some of the history on it. I suspect it never ventured far form the factory.

Any suggestions on what brand of bridge to buy would be most appreciated!

Thanks for looking!

Congratulations, that's a beautiful bass!

The best bridge would be the one your bass luthier prefers to use when he/she carves you a new bridge.

This bass looks to be in really great shape. Congratulations! It should sound and feel even getter with a new bridge and setup by a qualified doublebass specialist. Let us know how it turns out.
