| Bass Bag Identification OK, we have string identification tools, but I need to identify a couple of bass bags.
The first, I had on my old bass, years ago. The bag itself was probably made in the mid-to-late 70's, and it was made of a brown canvas-type material. It was padded, with the inside being that soft felt fabric. The main thing that differentiated it from other bags is that the main zipper went from the tailpiece to the nut, instead of up one side. There were also two zippers that went up along the lower bouts. This made it incredibly easy to take off and put on the bass. There were a couple of straps that cinched down so that the bag fit snugly, one around the neck and another around the ribs. The top end, over the scroll, was reinforced with some sort of imitation leather. Finally, it had the usual over-the-shoulder strap that anchored near each rib. I loved this bag.
Well, that bass was sold long ago, and the bag with it. Since I've begun playing again, I've been trying to find another one like it, but haven't been able to locate one.
I recently went over to someone's house to pick up a bass, which was supposed to have been in a bag, but due to a mixup it wasn't. To make a long story short, I was loaned a bag, and lo and behold, it is very similar to the bag I described above. There are some differences - this bag is black, the buckles are different, and it seems to have been made later than the other - but I am almost certain that it's related to my old bag.
The 2nd bag came on a bass purchased from the Bass Viol shop, before it was closed, otherwise I would call them up, and I think my parents got the 1st bag from Philip Gold's dad, like 30 years ago, and Philip doesn't remember where it came from.
So, Bass Bag Identification - does anyone know what kind of bags these are, and/or where I can get another one?
