Bass Bag Zipper

Well the OTHER zipper pull broke on my bass bag this past week. First one broke when the case was new from a jammed zipper from bunched up fabric around the zipper. The second one, the pull just disintegrated last week no jam or anything, just came apart in my hand. I know people have had luggage, and tent places fix their zippers. But where can I BUY a zipper or zipper pull to have this replaced???

zipper stuff

Are the zipper "slider" and "chain" (teeth) still okay, and your "pull tabs" have just broken off? Check the condition of the little hook on the sliders to see if you can just replace the pull tabs (which would be the easiest fix--and you might find those at a fabric store, even if you have to buy a new zipper). If that hook on the sliders is completely broken, you'd likely need either new sliders or a completely new zipper. I'd first check with the company that makes the case for any replacement parts for the zipper and to see if new sliders can even be installed/replaced.

I once made a mountaineering tent with a huge industrial zipper, and sewing that thing in was a real pain. I can't imagine replacing your bass case zipper would be much fun either.

Oh, and here are two web pages with neat zipper info:

Zipper sliders

I just had two sliders and pull-tabs replaced on my bass bag. A local custom leather guy did a great job for me! He seemed to have all the resources to find the parts and get the job done. I'm sure this was a lot cheaper than getting new zippers!

zipper repair

I fixed one of my gig bags here using this kit:

http://www.zipperrescue.com/outdoor.asp

I think it was around $10-12 for the kit, and it has a bunch of sliders you could potentially use to fix zippers on other things - sleeping bags, jackets, tents, whatever...

yeah, i think all i need is new sliders w/ pulls. the zipper came apart a couple times, but most the time it works OK (except for the extra fabric that jams the zipper sometimes).

I need this

I lucked out on one of these... my son's school backpack disintegrated, so I stole the zipper pulls from him and they worked like a champ on my cheaper bass bag. (Ok, I didn't exactly steal it, as it was in the trash can). Maybe you have a bag or something that you could steal from?

A shoemaker may also have the equipement necessary to help with a broken zipper.

Ended up going to a luggage/shoe repair place. He replaced both sliders/pulls, w/ YKK brand.

He was cheap, fast, good, and RUDE
