Question Bass and bow history/age/value questions

I received my upright bass as a gift, it mailed it from England. It is beat on and used but pretty decent, and of course any upright is better than no upright! The tag inside says it is an Engelhardt ES1 serial # 78455 (Made in USA). But the ES1's I've seen online don't look like it at all. I don't know the value or the age or really anything about it.
Also I recently purchased a used R.A. Meinel french bow and I don't know much about the maker, what type of hair I should use, value or age. There are pictures of each attached. Thank you, any responses would be much appreciated.

I've seen a lot worse! I don't know much about your bow but you can take it to a bass shop for rehair.

Meinal bows run a wide range from $150 to more than ten times that - best to have it rehaired and checked out by someone you can trust:

Thanks for the advice
I researched the bass a bit and it is about 12 years old. (most likely) The bow should be worth it. I purchased it from a very reliable source (a professional bassist in the BSO) and I paid little for it. Does anyone know how to fix an endpin? The picture explains the sadness.

Someone skilled with a drill could drill that out.
Having worked as a mechanic, I have drilled out LOTS of broken off in there bolts and stuff...

Broken off thumbscrew? What you want is a tool called an easy-out (sometimes spelled ez out or e-z out). It's a tapered, hardened steel shaft with a coarse left hand thread. You drill a pilot hole into the broken part, then thread the easy-out in counterclockwise, and it unscrews the damaged stub. Available through amazon or most auto parts stores.

Thanks. Fixed it. I am concerned though that my bass can't be made in 1999, it seems at least double. Would it make sense that it is an engelhardt bass but with a KAY bridge? The bridge came with the bass.

Sure why not... If it looks like and engelhert and has an engelhert sticker, it is most likely an engelhert! It wouldn't have it's origkonal bridge on it anyways if it was more then 20 years old.
