A bit odd looking, but kind of cool I think. I wonder if one could make a laminate of maple, ebony, and maple (ala a "hippie sandwich" electric neck/body) and then cut the bridge out of it and it would actually sound good. I looks like they did that here. Sonically, what would that yield?

The first thing that came to mind after I looked at the side views of this bass was it was very similar to what you would expect to see looking at a violin in a side view. My guess would be that the maker is an amateur (or an artist?) who didn't have a real bass to use for a pattern, so tried to use a blown up violin pattern instead and modified it accordingly. The scroll looks more like a violin or viola than a bass or cello. That back button has to be one of the biggest I've ever seen and it looks like that neck is so thick that it would be very difficult, if not impossible, to play. It is really a shame considering how much work the maker put into it.

My guess is that is what it's best at. Something about this screams 'gimmick'

Look ma, no bridge feet. Dig that crazy tailpiece.

Depending on the age of the wood and some more details, (like what's inside) I'd think it might be a good candidate to be worked over and turned into a real instrument... Could make someone a cool project, anyway. But, I certainly wouldn't buy it without seeing it in person.

Sorry, couldn't resist. That neck and lack of rib depth are kind of scary. Gee maybe it has two bass bars....

i´ve seen several "sandwich-bridges" with a layer of ebony in the middle here in germany. there is a luthier here (http://www.geigenbau-kasak.de/) who makes these. i cant find a pic on his website, but if someone is interested, i´ll try to find one.

EDIT: pic here:http://www.geba-online.de/marktplatz...e_id=0&id=1373
