Bass Guitarist needs help

Hey ya'll, I'm an electric bass player in Nashville Tn. I have a crappy random upright I've had for about 8 years that I bring to sessions and do a few gigs with. Unfortunately when I moved into my new house the neck snapped off my upright cleanly where it was glued on. My question for all of you is how much do you think it would cost to have it fixed. I have put it off for awhile now because my living is made by playing bass guitar, and I didn't want to pay to fix something that isn't directly making me money. I now miss playing my upright terribly and really would like to have it back in working order. I appreciate anyones help. Thanks.

Smokey says, "only YOU can prevent forest fires."

Only your luthier can tell you what it will cost. They have their own rates. But it is a big job and easy to f*** up, so it won't be cheap. You may have to decide between fixing the "crappy" bass and replacing it. But you're in Nashville and I would think there a few good repair guys there. Take it in and you'll know for sure.

Check this for a local luthier:

I appreciate the suggestions, but I was really hoping for a figure. I don't want to haul my upright around town getting quotes from different luthiers if it is going to be an outrageous cost to begin with.

Sorry to be a wiseacre, but call first. You're looking at several hundred to maybe over $1000, depending on the scope of the damage. You're going to have to drag the sucker in before you get an actual quote. Unless you can find a luthier who makes house calls.

Call Williams Violins on Music Row. Dustin or Jack will give you a ball park figure. They probably won't give an exact number without looking at it, but it will be worth the trip to see the inventory.
