bass guitarist thinking of buying EM1/humidty issues

hi everybody,

I've been playing bass guitar for 2 years, and consider myself pretty serious about it. i have decided that i would like to start up the double bass, and tomorrow I'm going to look at an used Englehardt EM1, for around 900 bucks.

My main concern, and my parents, is that we live in rhode island next to the ocean, and it gets pretty hot and humid here, and i don't think it is a plywood bass. Is humidity a huge problem for carved basses? Should i buy it, or look for a plywood bass (if Englehardt EM1's aren't)?

I'm 15 minutes from the Atlantic in New Jersey.... Humidity is rough!!!!

The EM-1 (I just bought one myself) is a plywood bass. It should be fine...

Mine came already upgraded with an adjustable bridge. Seems that would be a must if your bass room isn't climate controlled.
