Ouch! Looks like it was in pretty good condition as a bass before that, too - some well-done repairs. Does anyone recognise the maker? It looks like someone has turned what was probably at least $2000 of bass into something that might if they're lucky be $200 (though at the moment it's heading more towards $20) of drinks cabinet....

I wonder if it would be worth bringing back to use - it's still got its bass bar, neck block, even linings, I think; I'm not sure that the job would be much more than taking out the additions and putting the back back on (and replacing the neck, of course). At the least, it could be an incredibly cheap fixer-up project for any mid-European amateur luthiers we may have?

Might have been useful in "prohibition" days!

It's just my bass officer - no drink here!

Well my daughter thinks its pretty cool. "Hey dad, so if your bass gets stuffed up or it doesn't work out, can you put shelves in it and give it to me?"

this from a girl who can PLAY the thing almost better than me ...

The design on the back loks like the generic Juzek-Wilfer etc. pattern.

As Wil de Sola wrote, Prost.
