Bass Mute

Hi Guys. At Last a double bass forum. I have been playing upright now for about two months and am really getting into it, but could anyone tell me what a bass mute is and how it fits etc. I am still learning about DB accessories. Any help on this topic appreciated. Thnaks. Mart B

A mute adds mass to the bridge, which mutes the tone.
Some are made of rubber, like the Tourte, others from ebony.
You install them on top of the bridge.
The bridge crown is quite sensitive to mass excess.
Even the brass clamps of the Fishman BP-100 pickup have a muting effect.
