If anyone knows of any DB shops in Northern or Central Florida please let me know. I will be traveling there soon and want to play some carved basses. I plan on buying one soon. Thanks.

Hey Cathead: I've been following your quest here and on the other board. This is probably obvious but are you driving down to FL? I would think there must be a few shops between WV and FL - you might want to investigate all the options. I wonder if Jerry Fretwell deals in any carved or hybrids? If you're not driving, please ignore this post.

Yes, I am driving. I have already contacted Jerry. He only has 2 hybrids to choose from at the time. I bought an Engelhardt from him in June. Great guy to deal with. Thanks for the input.

I know this is a bit off I77 but you could try Bob Beerman's Bass violin Shop in Greensboro, NC. He has a good selection of basses. Check it out here http://www.bassviolinshop.com/ Mike

Speaking of "Don't Taze Me Bro" anything closer to Gainesville. The Orlando trip really stinks, and I remember when I was a at UNF the players would talk about a shop up there, but I never got close enough in the circle to get the name of it. Anyone out there from the area know of a shop?

I'll be staying as close to Gainesville as I will be to Orlando. Either one will be fine if I can just find a shop. Thanks.

There is a place in East Orlando called "Atlantic Strings" that has violins, violas, cellos, and uprights.

There is nothing in Gainesville. There is a shop in Jacksonville. The name is the Violin Shop. The owners name is Miguel.
The phone number is 904-564-9002.
Address-3225 Southside Blvd
Jax, Fl.32216

A friend of mine is a pro in Jax, he told me about this shop. I have spoken to them on the phone. At that time, they did have carved basses in the shop. But I haven't been there.

Don't know about Orlando. Good luck.

I've heard from a very good local player that there is a good luthier in Gainsville that usually has a few basses. I have to ask him again for the name and number - I'll try to get it. If not, do check around there for a luthier. There can't be too many.

I wonder how much it would cost to put a "WTB" ad in a few local union newsletters. That might turn over a few stones.

There is a bow maker here in town, that has a bass for sale. But he doesn't do luthier work. Try to get the name, I'll run it down.
