But mine broke a weld on one of the supports; fortunately it held well enough to not allow the bass to fall. I haven't used it or any other stand since.
BTW.... this isn't to say this was Bob's fault at all, he's a straightahead guy. |

The bad news is that I built it custom and haven't marketed it yet. I have heard here that the Bare Naked Ladies bassist has something similar, but I haven't seen that one.

I have been searching for something similar to the OP and found a "bass stool and stand" at the KC Strings website. It looks interesting and is reasonably priced, but I have no experience with it. I'd like to find out if it is sturdy enough and if anyone has used these.
Silversorcerer - your invention sounds great. Bring it to market already! |

| There are several at their shop. Although I haven't sat on one to use it as a stool, it is a sturdy bass stand. |

There is usually a big gap between the back of the violas and the front of the trumpets. Or in the back corner with the bridge on the inside when the stage is really packed for an elaborate show. The others in the section put their basses on a chair against the side wall with the bridge facing in.
Everyone seems to walk right behind me on their way in or out. With the bass on a chair, there is the potential of someone walking whacking their head on the scroll and the bass falling over. The soft seat also makes the bass a bit wobbly.
Having a Ingles stand on the floor just adds to the amount of stuff you have to cart around with you. The stage hands don't like having excess stuff on the stage either. They are great for at home if you don't have a good corner to stand your bass in. |

I have this at home though http://www.thomann.de/at/km_141_bassstaender.htm because I donīt have any corners free to lean the bass against and I the room is quite small so I donīt want to have the bass on the floor.
A friend of mine who sometimes plays bass-guitar on the same gig takes this stand to the gig as well because itīs less effort to put the bass in the stand during the show. The stand comes in handy on very small stages, too... |

Whats cool about it compared to normal stools is that the part you rest the bottom of the bass on becomes your foot rest...whats cool about that is it keeps you perfectly balanced instead of putting your foot up and back on a rod which could cause you to fall forward. The only down fall is that if you have you endpin out the thing will lean back when your bass is in it, which may seem like it would fall over, but it doesn't. If you'd like pics just PM me. Its comfy too!

I figure you have to use something a while to make sure it holds up under road abuse. So far so good on the durability factor. I take it everywhere several times a week. I've also had some opportunities through use to make several improvements. The next thing to do, and probably the last critical thing is to get it to a one-size-fits-all level. Currently there are several variables in the size of DBs and end-pins length preferences, so the stand needs to have adjustable dimensions in a few places to work with all basses. Otherwise I guess I could take measurements off a bass and custom dimension the stand just for one bass, but then the stand is less useful over the long haul. The proto-type is custom dimensioned. If someone wants a custom one-off before I get the adjustable elements incorporated I'd be happy to do one of those. In fact that might help with the "market" testing of the stand.

| | | | KC Strings Glad to see someone else is as interested in and excited about the KC Strings stool/stand as I am! Aside from everything else said, it also come apart into separate pieces and comes with a carry bag. (It's really easy to assemble/disassemble) http://www.kcstrings.com/bass-stool-stand.html
And KC Strings is definitely a cool place to check out if you're ever in the area! | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
