bass trunks

i know there has been some discussion about double bass trunks here. I'm doing a tour where they're buying a trunk for my bass. They'll spend up to $3000.00. Have used a Gage trunk b4 but the Kolstein, though a bit heavier, also looks good. Any thoughts? John Arbo

kolstein just came out with a new model which is about 68 pounds and 77 inches long

the tuft one is longer, which can become a hassle and the ropes used to close are easily torn off by other baggage being thrown around it

go with kolstein

If the trunk is being shipped by tuck mostly then I would go with the kolstein. It does not tip over so easily and is a very robust case with a little space inside for stuff, bow, clothes etc.
If you will be flying at all then I would say go with Gage, It ways less and is never a problem at the airport. But there is no room for personal items in it and you will need to have a gig bag on the bass.

Good luck
