Beginner Rockabilly Bass / Rig Suggestions

Well i figure since the Electric forum gets enough "Which Beginner bass? SX or Squier" I'd give you guys a taste of it

My parents have agreed to pitch in and I got a friends dad who does set ups/repairs on bass, cello, and violins to do a set up.....pro bono !

So my budget is $3000

I think I need a pickup as well so suggestions on that would help. I live in Southern California if that makes a difference as to luthiers in the area ect...
I'm tall and currently use a full scaled upright but I dont know if for rockabilly it would be better to use a 3/4 or something.

Also, would a small 112 or 210 combo (Eden, GK ect) be OK for a 3 piece rockabilly/ horrorpunk band in terms of speaker size and frequency range? I think i should be more than OK in watts and volume as they use pretty small tube combos.
I've got Electric bass stuff to trade for this worth about $600.

Any other tips or suggestions would be great

Thanks

if you can get a hold of a used slap king, you would be in good shape. in fact, just mosey on over to www.rockabillybass.com and check out the classifieds.

Yea Geoff Kresege uses Slap kings but his are modded to hell which is why I was kinda on the fence as to whether or not they were good stock

All other suggestions welcome as I search for a slap king in California
